IN MY KITCHEN- OCTOBER 2022

Welcome to my kitchen.

September has brought some new purchases to my October kitchen that I'm very excited about sharing today(If you are reading this on your phone- click on web version for a better layout and read)

April Cornell talbecloth in pink and yellow

This new April Cornell tablecloth (needs a good ironing) is one of my favorites. I love the colors in this floral design and the old fashioned look which reminds me of the tablecloths my mother used throughout my childhood.

Citrus Juicer for lemons, limes, and oranges

citrus juicer for lemons and oranges

Yup, another electric appliance. But I make quite a bit of fresh lemon juice. Although I don't like to have too many appliances, this one is small and will be quite a help for me. I can effortlessly make a full cup of fresh lemon juice in seconds with pits removed.

Chopper-

gadget chopper for vegetables

Some of my friends in Florida own this gadget and use it to dice tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and any soft vegetable. It makes a great Israeli salad and is easy to use and clean. I finally bought one when I saw it on sale at Costco. I hope I actually use it. For me, it might be quicker to actually chop with a knife rather than have the cleanup of the chopper. We will see.

Pumpkin Flavored Drizzilicious- AMAZING

Drizzilicious pumpkin snack package
90 calories for 21 delicious pieces and 3 grams of fat

This is an amazing tasting snack (GF of course) that has a rice cake base and is drizzled with a sweet flavoring.  I bought 4 bags of pumpkin flavor (thought I would share extra bags with some friends-but no-!) We could not stop eating it. Therefore I will not to buy it again!!! But they were sensational. They also come in chocolate drizzle plus many other choices. I got it in Wegmans and saw it in the regular supermarket as well. (Kosher hecture, Vegan, GF, and non GMO).

Three Wishes Cereal: High protein, Low Sugar Cereal Low Fat

Three Wishes Cereal

Three Wishes Cereal Box

I found this high protein Gluten free cereal at Whole Foods and then also in my local Shoprite market. Really tasty and made from chickpea flour. Pumpkin was my favorite of the flavors I tried. It is sweetened with Monk-fruit.

Fresh Beet Salad-
This is a simple salad that my sister-in-law made and brought to me on the Jewish holiday. So delicious, and I didn't have to make a mess  cooking the beets. I have to get her recipe, but I'm guessing it was made with fresh garlic, vinegar or lemon juice, salt etc. It was kind of pickled.

These mums are from last October in my kitchen.

  1. Convenient appliances are tempting, but there’s always the question of having to get it out, assemble it, recall exactly how to use it, and then clean it and put it away. And then I tend to skip using it. I hope you do enjoy your new gadgets!

  2. The juicer would be a good addtion to our kitchen. The mums are pretty and as a matter of fact, after I surf around more this morning I am planting some mums out front. No one sees the front but us as we are a quarter mile off the road but I like making it pretty.

    1. There are times I want to juice several lemons and will use the user. Otherwise for one lemon, it will be by hand.

  3. I'm still travelling so haven't been reading blogs in the last month. I've bought more choppers over the years that I've never used. Love beets, should eat them more. Those rice cakes look good. We are so missing vegetables on this trip!

    1. I love beets but seldom make them because of the mess. I was grateful for this gift.

  4. Judee,

I love April’s linens a lot too! I bought a small citrus juicer similar to yours except mine isn’t electric. I adore beets and have a similar recipe on my blog from what my mother used to make and that now I make. And I have not picked up any mums yet, which is my bad!! Happy October and autumn to you!

    1. Yes, I have had April's hand mitts for the oven, dish towels, and tablecloths- love them.

  5. Enjoy your new gadgets. I don't like buying many of them because as you said, sometimes it is just easier to do it by hand than getting things out and then having to clean them up. I LOVE your tablecloth. I have a tablecloth that was my grandmothers with almost the same pattern except the background is red and the flowers are white and yellow.

    1. I really should have ironed it before I snapped the shot. Now it will be wrinkled for eternity in the post.

  7. I have a chopper similar like yours that I got as a X'mas present a decade ago and it's still in the package lying somewhere as I find it easier and quicker to chop with a sharp knife than cleaning the chopper. I love that beautiful tablecloth too.

    1. Truthfully, I don't know why I purchased it. I chop rather quickly and it is a pain to clean and store it. So many friends recommended it that when I saw the sale for $15 I grabbed it.

  9. let us know next month if you used the chopper. I have a hand squeezer I use to juice lemons etc. Much easier for me than using the machine.

    1. Good thought Tandy. I've had the chopper 3 weeks and have chosen to chop instead of unpacking and washing it and repacking it in the box.

  10. Your new tablecloth is beautiful! I too love old-fashioned floral linens and see how this one would remind you of your childhood. The Drizzilicious rice cakes look so good! I know what you mean about not wanting to buy them, though, for fear of eating them all -- I'm the same with Quaker cheddar rice cakes. By the way, enjoy Florida! I can't believe it's that time of year again. Soak up the sunshine for me! 🌞

  11. Thanks so much for joining in IMK this month. Great to have you. Love that tablecloth. Hubby brought some back from France years ago and we still use them. I have an electric juicer too - so handy when you have to squeeze many fruits. I am intrigued by the mini rice cakes. Sounds delicious. And pickled beetroots are one of my fave veg. cheers sherry

  13. What a FUN post!!! I have got to do one of these "In my kitchen" posts on my blog. Oh, you blew my skirt up with that April Cornell table covering. I still mourn the loss of the store that used to be in my area. I LOVE her stuff! I'll be very interested in knowing about that chopper. I have hesitated buying one of those, but, if they work, boy would one of those be handy.

I too have a small citrus juicer like yours. I juice lemons and freeze in ice cube containers. :)

I love that idea. Ice cubes size lemon juice would be perfect for recipes or even lemonade.

  18. What a stunning tablecloth! I go crazy for that vintage look and have quite a few vintage linen tablecloths, all with flowers. Thanks for introducing me to that site, Judee!

Mums are so pretty. I wish I could grow them here. Not enough sun.

I usually don't even want to use my food processor because of the cleaning factor but one never knows what tool will make all the difference until one tries it. A friend swears by a similar tool but I mostly stick to knives and my mini chopper. ;-)

That electric citrus juicer is a must in every kitchen. I have the handheld citrus press but want to buy the electric one.

    1. Yes, if you use several lemons, the electric juicer which is under $20 is a real help.

  21. Those flowers just scream fall, they are beautiful. I thought your tablecloth was an heirloom, it does look very antique. Where did you find it? We used to have an April Cornell store in the bay area but I haven't seen her stuff for some time. I used to have a bunch of her pillow covers that I could change out with the seasons.
