IN MY KITCHEN - JULY

At the beginning of every month, Sherry from Sherry's Pickings invites bloggers to join her in a blog post linky called "IN MY KITCHEN" where you can get a peek into many kitchens. Anyone can join in.  I like to join in when I can.

The past week has been brutally hot and very humid here in Pennsylvania, so we've been eating a lot of salads! This is a red cabbage, cucumber and cherry tomato salad was delicious with a lemon dressing ! See what else has been happening in my kitchen!

IN MY KITCHEN - MARCH 2025

I'm in my Florida condo for the winter season. I cook about 4 nights a week, and we eat out about 3 nights a week. It seems to be the way everyone socializes (and puts on weight). Of course the weather is warm, so it makes it easy to be out and about and even walk to some of the restaurants.

I'm joining Sherry and other bloggers for In My Kitchen monthly blog share hosted by Sherry's Pickings where any blogger can join in!

This is what has been going on in my kitchen this past month.

Home For Thanksgiving - and Back

Philadelphia Towers photo and picture

We flew home from Florida to Philadelphia for Thanksgiving to be with our kids, grandkids, and family.  The weather was relatively mild (40' and 50's) until the last day when it was 28 degrees in the morning.

Philadelphia Eagles
My husband took a picture with the Eagles display at the
Philly airport

I loved the crisper weather ( for the week) but most of all I enjoyed the lights and festive decorations on all the houses. In South Florida, there are mostly condos where I live and the personal decorating is at a minimum. However, the streets and condo building are highly decorated. Maybe it just doesn't feel like the holiday season in South Florida because it' still so warm (70's and 80's).

In My Kitchen June 2024

It's the beginning of June and I'm joining Sherry in her monthly "In My Kitchen" share.

I've been away for about a month, so the only new things I have to share are the few kitchen items that I purchased in Paris, our last stop (6 days) before we flew back to Miami.

Shopping in the Montmartre village with charming restaurants, artists, and stores.
There are also neighborhoods and amazing churches.

IN MY KITCHEN- AUGUST

electric lemon juicer

What's new in my kitchen for August? I'm in my home in Pennsylvania for 5 months during the summer where I have a house and a spacious kitchen.

I'm using this electric lemon juicer (above) which speeds up juicing my lemons for recipes that call for lots of fresh lemon juice such as vegan stuffed grape leaves (link) or lemony Greek stuffed tomatoes (link) which are perfect to make with summer tomatoes.

In My Kitchen - February

Let's take a peek into what's going on IN MY KITCHEN  at the beginning of February.

polenta roll from Trader Joe

I purchase this organic cooked polenta roll at Trader Joe's. I usually slice it and cook it in marinara sauce. It gets soft and delicious.

wide mouth thermos

wide mouth thermos

I love this thermos. I am able to put an entire meal in here when I am out for the day (shopping, beach, site seeing)  and don't want to eat out. I put rice, beans, and vegetable in here for a full healthy meal.

Hannah hummus large container

My favorite Hummus ( don't know why they spell it Hommus) . I purchase it at Costco (but I believe it is sold in a smaller size in the markets). It's entirely organic and tastes great!

cocoa crisp cereal organic

This is the first time I tried this cereal. It taste good, not too sweet. I bought it at the regular supermarket.

homemade jar of tofu mayonnaise

I made my own plant-based (tofu) mayonnaise in minutes in my blender. I was extremely pleased with the taste and much lower fat content than regular mayonnaise. I made a small jar that lasts a little over a week. Tofu Mayonnaise recipe link.

vegetable juicer

I bought this juicer at Aldi's during the holidays. It was quite reasonable ($39.99) so I was surprised how well it works and has a wide mouth for larger vegetables or fruit.

I had been needing a new juicer (to replace the Braun that I had for 30 years and loved- but they no longer make the Braun compatible for US use). I  tried some of the more expensive brands and just couldn't find anything I liked. I need a small one to accommodate the smaller space in my condo winter kitchen.

I'm sharing this post and joining Sherry and other bloggers on IMK ( In My Kitchen)  IN MY KITCHEN

What's IN MY KITCHEN for December?

It's December and it's time to take a peek INTO MY KITCHEN and see what I'm up to.

Ninja air fryer

I have a new air-fryer!! Why? I am sad to share that my previous beautiful (expensive) Ninja air-fryer with fold up features broke when accidentally dropped. The Inside glass tubes cracked, fell, and were hanging. I had to debate whether to re-invest in a new one or do without.  10 minutes later, I was ordering the same air-fryer that I had before on Cyber Monday sales! So now I have a new air-fryer.

falafel balls

I love falafel but don't love to fry! I found these absolutely delicious falafel balls in the freezer section of a near-by store in Florida. It is made by a company called, "Chef Tzali." I suspect it might be easiest to find in stores that carry kosher items such as the Shop-rite in Mercer Mall in NJ. They are gluten-free and vegan which is PERFECT for me. In addition, 3 balls are only 70 calories and 1.5 grams of fat. I microwave 3 of them for 1 minute and they taste great!!

Hanukkah candles in the sand
My brother-in-law made this Hanukkah Menora for Florida using mini beach chairs, sand, and a Chanukah plate

The first night of Hanukah is December 18 this year. I'm starting to get out the Chanukah decorations.

This is a lovely glass tray with a beautiful message- It's uplifting and represents the essence of the Chanukah holiday.

Chanukah glass tray,

I found this platter at Home-Goods this year.
I'll use it to serve latkes (potato pancakes). They had 4 of them when I purchased but I went back the next day to get another one for a gift- all gone!!

Hanukkah platter with beautiful decorations

I made my mother-in-laws Egyptian Bamia (baby okra) (recipe link)  We usually eat it with rice. I use frozen baby okra.

baby okra in tomato sauce, bamia

My sister-in-law made a beautiful salad for Thanksgiving. It contained arugula, pear, blueberries, and sliced nuts and vegan feta cheese.

Sharing this post at Sherry's In My Kitchen linky where anyone can share by following simple directions at the beginning of every month.

My Notes:
1. I've seen the word Hanukkah/Chanukah spelled in multiple ways. I've used both ways in this post. I like using the CH which is more authentic to the Hebrew pronunciation with a guttural CH sound not like in channel-

2. Did I like the vegan feta? Didn't taste like the real thing to me.

3. I haven't opened my air-fryer yet. Still deciding whether I need it- because it takes up so much room on my counter and my kitchen in Florida is small. However, I do love using it.

In My Kitchen for June

I'm joining Sherry's IMK ( In My Kitchen) for the month of June to give my readers a peek into what's in my kitchen this month.

We just returned from 6 months in Florida, so I'll be sharing from my Pennsylvania kitchen this month.

I bought a fun serving spinner at Homegoods for outdoor serving. It holds quite a bit of vegetables, fruit, and there is room for dips too. It spins making it easy for guests to reach everything. I'll be using it outside on our deck!

Green Retro Bowls Filled With Watermelon-
This watermelon was perfect for hot humid weather. Yesterday was 90 degrees and this watermelon was cooling and refreshing. I love the green retro bowls.

In My Kitchen (November)

I'm joining Sherry's IMK (In My Kitchen) "blog share" for the month of November. IMK, as the name implies, is an opportunity for bloggers to give readers a peek into what's going on in their kitchens.

I've been looking at fall tablescapes on some blogs recently, and love all the beautifully set tables for the season. I started digging out an old set of pottery that I had packed away that I haven't used in many years. They look and feel like fall dishes to me.

It was my very first set of "good" dishes when I first got married. I wasn't into china. I remembered that the pottery was from a company called  Rocky Mount Pottery from the 1970's, but I couldn't find anything like it online. Anyone recognize or know if it is Rocky Mount?
