Should I keep my Instant Pot or Return it ?

Should I keep my Instant Pot or return it?

My Instant Pot was delivered more than 2 weeks ago ( bought it on the Amazon Prime Special), and it has been sitting in the garage unopened ever since.

I think I have regrets that I ordered it

.
I've had vacillating thoughts racing running through my mind everytime I look at the box still sitting in the garage.

Con Thoughts

1. Do I need ANOTHER appliance in the kitchen. After all, I have a slow cooker and I am a vegetarian. Do I really need it to boil eggs and make yogurt in an Instant Pot?

2. Do I want to return it and be bothered making a label, taking it to the post office, paying for postage??

3. Can I give it as a gift? Surely someone other than me would be thrilled with it?

4. I'm not in the mood to learn how to use it. I understand there is  learning curve, so I keep putting off using it.

5. Where the heck am I going to keep it. It's big!! I got the 8 qt size ( of course) and really have no room for it.

6. Blah Blah Blah

On the other hand: Pro Thoughts

1. I got a good deal on it

2. My mother always used an old fashioned pressure cooker and loved it! ( even though I was scared of it as a little girl)

3. Many bloggers and friends are raving about it.. My friend Noreen said it makes the best hb eggs ever and the peels just slide off.

4. I can make my own yogurt. I buy raw milk organic yogurt , it's expensive. If I made my own yogurt, I could just buy the raw organic milk and make my own which will make 4 times as much for the money.

5. I could make beans, soups, and chili - maybe I'll use it more in the winter months

6. The Instant Pot is also a slow cooker , so I could consolidate

UPDATE: I KEPT MY INSTANT POT AND LOVE IT!!! BEST APPLIANCE I EVER INVESTED IN...NOT ONE MINUTE OF REGRET!!! GO FOR IT!!

What would I make in the Instant Pot? ????

Well there you have it- should I open the box or return it?

Do you have an Instant Pot? Do you love it ? What are your suggestions? Help!
What are your favorite GF vegetarian/vegan recipes to make in it?

  1. I think the best way to determine whether of not to keep it is to find if there
are things that you can do with it that will save you time, do you have recipes for Instant Pot that would make your life easier. I have read a lot of recipes that say it paid for itself in the first time using it. I hope this gives you something to think about. I hate having buyers remorse too!

    1. KATHY,
Thanks for the suggestions. I keep hearing pros and cons.. I'll have to do some more research by looking at other bloggers and see how they are using it. Thanks again

  2. Judee,

I enjoyed this post so much. Not because I like to see your suffering in print, but because you could have written this for me. "I'm not in the mood to learn how to use it" resonated with me. If this makes you feel any better, I researched to find the best steamer to use in house cleaning and arrived at the McCullough Steamer. It is still sitting here in the box six months later. Other than not having enough time, I am intimidated in the learning involved in using it. And I am educated :). As if that were not bad enough, I found a full-size food processor (I only had a Barbie-sized one before. Or we could call it "fun size," like the little candy bars at Halloween) on sale at Macy's. Still in the box several months later. I have to keep things like it and other kitchen appliances in the basement, as I have no room in my tiny "period" kitchen. So, I feel your pain. I would be inclined to keep the Instant Pot and perhaps pick a day in the future to devote to unpacking it and getting acquainted. Maybe I will practice what I preach and do that myself with my two new toys. Thanks for this post, and know it will resonate with others.

    1. Since the Instant pot is both a pressure cooker and slow cooker, I could consolidate.. and that would take up less room. Thanks for your comments. So glad I'm not the only one ...

  3. I have a similar pressure cooker just a different name. I love mine. I make roast in it that comes out very tender. Since you are vegetarian, I'm not sure how it would benefit you. However, you made some good points. If you use it for yogurt and save money...there you go! I used the slow cooker once but don't remember what I cooked, but was not happy with the outcome, so haven't used it since. Good luck!

  4. Think you should give it a whirl. You can learn, I am sure! I follow a blogger, Debbie Doo who has pretty much devoted herself to this piece of equipment. She has made so many different things and they all look terrific. I live alone and it would simply make two much food for me to consume. You should check out her blog, she has one just for the InstaPot on Facebook. Shares recipes, too. If not resell it or have a giveaway on your blog.

  5. Judee, your pros and cons sound just like what's been going through my head ever since I started thinking about getting one! Fortunately, I haven't ordered one yet. I feel your pain. :-) I would get a smaller one, though - 6 quarts. I love my slow cooker except that it has a nonstick cooking pot, and I don't like nonstick coatings; the Instant Pot doesn't have that. If its slow cooker function works well, that would be a good thing for me EVEN IF I never used it as a pressure cooker. I prefer the slow cooker for beans; from what I've read, they split in a pressure cooker. Have I helped you decide? :D

    1. Jean,
You have made some good points and I mostly wanted it for beans. Thanks for taking the time to comment

  6. Judee, I didn't think I would ever need a pressure cooker until I read the book The Plant Paradox by Steven R. Gundry. He states that cooking beans and legumes in a pressure cooker is the only way to remove the harmful lectins. You might want to do some research on this. It may give you one more incentive to keep the pot!

    1. Ok -- I am keeping it.. I believe I read that too and forgot about it.. It's for my beans and legumes to remove the lectins... Thanks Laura!!!

  7. I received a complimentary pressure cooker from a company in exchange for a review. Frankly, it scared me, but it did make a mean mushroom risotto in about fifteen minutes. That was over a year ago and I haven't used it since. My thought was that if I had the popular Insta Pot brand with all of the recipes available online that I might use it more, but the fact is, I won't. I don't have the option to send mine back, so it just takes up space in the garage. My opinion is to return it.

  8. you are right. It probably wont get used . I am not sure what to use it for and how to use it [ so it continues to sit and sit and sits)

  9. If you have to ask yourself that question in the first place, you don't really want it. Return it.

  10. Really? You are a grown woman. Make a choice and stick to it. Goodness - there's a whole lot of other things out there that could benefit from your open and kind personality. Sitting around trying to figure out what to use, when to use it, is horrific. STOP! Get rid of it. It obviously has caused you to lose a sense of perspective and that's worse. Next time maybe you'll think about buying something you may not use and that is a lesson learned.

  11. I don't have an Instant Pot, but I've definitely experienced the buyer's remorse (not remorse so much as ambiguity). Good luck. Please make sure to tell us what you decide. Thanks for linking up at #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty.

    1. Something a reader said convinced me to buy it. It has to do with cooking lentils and beans and how it removes the lectins..

  15. I had the same thoughts before buying a NuWave oven. So to help me decide, I joined some groups on Facebook where they were sharing info and recipes. After surfing the posts for a few days I decided to go ahead and buy it. It was a good choice, hubby and I both are glad we have it! You might do the same thing with the groups concerning the Instant Pot :) Thank you Judee for linking up at the #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty. I shared your post on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter.
