As the Florida season comes to a close for us snowbirds, there’s a familiar rhythm for me setting in. After seven wonderful playful months, it’s transition time—time for organizing, cleaning out, and getting ready to close up our condo before we head back to the Philadelphia area for the summer.
For the most part, we have two of everything, so I don't need to carry things back and forth. But after 7 months in Florida, I forget which clothing I actually have a home in Pennsylvania: I probably don't really need to bring any clothes home, but I'm taking some basics.
In the kitchen, we’re in “use it up” mode for food—working through frozen foods, eating up the fruit, and clearing out the pantry. It’s part practical, part ritual, and it signals that our time here is winding down. I do leave the canned food.I brought one of my favorite go-to salads—and it turned out to be a standout. Not only was it vibrant and colorful, but it also drew plenty of compliments (always a good sign!). link to recipe for salad.

Our hosts handled the grilling—serving up perfectly cooked chicken alongside an array of roasted vegetables—while others brought vegetarian appetizers, sides, and desserts. And of course, each couple arrived with a bottle of wine to share, making the evening feel even more celebratory.
These are the moments that define our snowbird lifestyle: good food, good friends, fun outings, and finally meaningful goodbyes—over the next 10 days we will be doing lots of partying and getting ready to leave until we all meet again next snowbird season.

I figured it would be soon, Judee! That must be so interesting, to live part of the year in one state and the other part in a different one. I can't imagine. Your food always looks so fresh and good and your friends so nice! Have a great trip to Pennsylvania! xoxo 🏴☠️
ReplyDeleteI can never live like this in two areas..would probably feel like that I had a steady home. That looks like a great party :-))
ReplyDeleteSounds fun! Lovely salad :-D
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely season!!
ReplyDeleteYum! That salad looks great!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
7 months in Florida every northern winter? Is everyone retired? How do you see the grandchildren, or do they go with you? Who looks after your home while you are away?
ReplyDeleteSafe travels and hope you pick the correct clothes to take with!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised to read that you have to pack your husband’s medications. Did he break his hands? Looks like a festive gathering before you all fan out to various parts of the country. Before you know it you’ll be moving south again. Do you vote in Pennsylvania or Florida, since you live most of the year in Florida?
ReplyDeleteYour salad looks amazing and so do the grilled veggies. It's nice that you have a community in Florida to spend time with and enjoy life. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to get together with everyone before all you snowbirds fly home. It looks like you have made some wonderful friends over these years. I wish I could leave clothes at the lake (and I do if we go back and forth in the summer) but they tend to come home with me in the fall. Nice not to have to pack and carry them all!
ReplyDeleteBeing a "snow bird" has it's ups and downs. However, it's a great way to live.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels back to the Philly area. Enjoy that transition into the Northern summer at least you're missing the humidity that’s about to settle into Florida! How many more "meaningful goodbyes" do you have on the calendar before the car is officially packed?
ReplyDeleteYes, we are having a great time making the rounds and getting together to say our goodbyes
DeleteBeautiful photos and delicious food. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable journey.
