The ocean walk is located directly across the street from my condo. The walk itself is beautiful, filled with small surprises every day. I frequently spot all kinds of birds, iguanas, insects, squirrels, and other little creatures that bring the path alive.
There are also people out walking their dogs, plenty of feral cats being fed by well-meaning folks despite the signs saying not to, and early-morning volleyball and pickle ball players already on the courts at 7:30 a.m. (By 9:00, the South Florida sun gets intense!)
I never tire of this route. The highlight for me is reaching the inlet beneath the bridge, where boats head out and the Caribbean blue ocean water and the Intracoastal meet. It’s consistently breathtaking—one of those simple, perfect moments I look forward to every morning.
I walk roughly 3 miles round-trip. The path is fully paved and sits just beyond the beach—close enough to see the ocean as I walk but while still walking on the paved trail.
There is a Marina side where I often encounter big black buzzard type of birds. I'm not sure of the proper name for these birds but they hang around in the trees, near the garbage, and near the picnic areas. They are big and ugly.
On occasion, I also get a glimpse of a cardinal. They look so pretty,
I see lots of pelicans on the ocean and also on the marina side .
You can see from the photo that I live in a city like area with lots of condos
I also see plenty of squirrels. They look cute, but they can be a real nuisance. Because so many tourists feed them, they’ve become unusually bold and often run right up to you looking for food. It can be a bit startling—one even ran up my friend’s leg while she was standing there on her cell phone.
I was even afraid getting these photos as they were getting very close.
More birds too- but I can't identify them.
Do you take walks? Where do you walk? What do you see?

Love the photos! Seeing the beautiful cardinal and the majestic pelican is wonderful, even if those bold squirrels are a bit too friendly!
ReplyDeleteHello Judee,
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy this walk, lovely views of the water! Great captures of the Birds, the big black bird are Turkey Vultures. Pelicans are one of my many favorite birds, I love the Cardinal and Warbler too. Cute squirrel photo. what a great critter post and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thanks so much for leaving me a comment.
They need that sign at Monkey Mia, Western Australia! A pelican - and I had no food - chased me!
ReplyDeleteBoy, did I get scared, huge birds they are.
We had a cute Squirrel-family in our place, sadly I didn´t see them in a longer time. Ours look different, too.
Love the variety of birds there. The vultures can be intimidating. I’ve only ever seen them flying over.
ReplyDeleteGooooood morning! I love your walk area. That's one thing I miss where I'm at now. No real walk area. Never saw buzzards in real life. What a treat you have for your eyes. Love me some spud soup too. Have a groovy weekend. It's another snow-covered one here but also really pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe paved path does look like a great place for a quiet walk with lots of birds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely daily walk. Always plenty to see in such attractive surroundings, but the squirrels are very bold.
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss all the wildlife I used to see in Florida, especially the birds! I love friendly squirrels.
ReplyDeleteThe squirrels there look different from ours...nice weather for a morning walk!
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute, but I agree with you, squirrels can be a problem. I am happy you have cardinals there, they are a favorite of mine. I don't have a route like you do, (too rural) but I try for 6000 steps each day, and often more with lots of outdoor chores to do, today I have clocked 8150 so far. But don't be too impressed, I did not make my 6000 yesterday, so I had some making up to to! Enjoy your time in FL!
ReplyDeleteWe have fresh snow today so believe me, that blue sky, pines and critters look mighty welcome to me!
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs from your walk.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a good week ahead.
All the best Jan
ooooh i enjoyed this walk out in nature. i'm sure someone told you those are turkey buzzards, but just in chase. i can only walk short distances, but we have several lakes we can drive around, and i can see a lot of wildlife and birds. i have a lot of feeders right here in my yard so i see a lot of great birds at home!! i have to go back and check that recipe, i LOVE potatoes!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk, Judee! 🌊
ReplyDeleteThe cardinal and pelicans are beautiful, and those bold squirrels made me smile. Sounds like the perfect way to start the day!
You have a great spot to walk and to included the nature that is all around you. Our little town does have a park, but the walking area is a bit boring. Of course...it's all about what you make of it. I would love to have a good walking spot to just totally enjoy being out there and not look at it as walking for exercise.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the gorgeous views from your daily walk. I especially like how you take the time to notice the different birds and creatures along the way. There is something about watching wildlife that refreshes and invigorates like nothing else. Also, that gorgeous blue Caribbean water must be such a treat! I enjoy daily walks in my neighborhood up against a rocky, fairly vegetated desert hill. There are plenty of birds and animals about, but none of that gorgeous Caribbean water!
ReplyDeleteI remember this area from when I lived in Dade back in the 70's and 80's. I can just see the sights you describe. So typically South Florida views. Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly see some incredible nature on your ocean walk! I think the black 'ugly' birds are turkey vultures.
ReplyDeleteI love watching the wildlife when we visit Florida. I am always fascinated by the different species of birds there. We just get the robins, cardinals, bluejays and crows here. We'll hear owls in our back yard occasionally, but I never see them.
ReplyDeleteI envy you that beautiful walk. It’s going down to 2° over the weekend here, so I will be staying in and sitting close to the fire.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty and positively brimming with life! I'd love to walk with you, too, although I think my darling Luka might have to stay home since he would love to chase all those critters along the way. ;)
