Our Jewish High Holy Days are this week, so I have some things in my kitchen that we will be using for our ceremonial family dinner on Thursday night: We will be dipping Apples in honey in hopes of a sweet new year and eating the seeds of a pomegranate to remind us to do good deeds in the coming year. I only use my crystal honey jar on this holiday.
I bought this Asian noodle bowl for soup, and it came with a noodle spoon and chopsticks. I love the colors.
I picked up some organic maple syrup at Trader Joe's where it is about half the price of any where else in this area.

When I visited Hilton Head, SC last month, they have lots of cute little tourist traps I mean shops and I treated myself to this lovely hand painted wooden spoon. It has a teaspoon on one end and a tablespoon on the other. That's all I could fit in my carry on to go home on the plane.
My favorite salad |
We are olive lovers and these dried olives from Turkey are really delicious.
Some fresh flowers
A lovely tasting green tea. I've been reading that green tea is supposed to be good for many ailments, but it does have caffeine.
Stuffed grape leaves for the holiday. The tiny peppers are very mildly /hot and are from a friends garden.
Jewish Apple Cake- vegan and gluten-free (not oil-free)
That's all folks. Have a great week!
Can't believe that it's almost the end of year...just before you know it, X'Mas will be here. I love that first soup/noodle bowl and that beautiful spoon.
ReplyDeleteTime has really flown..October.. can't believe it.
DeleteDid you know there are meant to be 614 seeds in a pomegranate? The same as all the laws governing our faith. Shana Tova xx

I know.. it's pretty interesting. Happy New Year to you too Tandy.
DeleteWhat a delights all in your blog.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll go for the salad, it looks really delicious.
Greetings Irma
Irma, it is a great salad. Actually it's a meal in itself.
DeleteThe wooden spoon is so pretty, and useful, too. I like olives but have never tried dried olives.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy celebrating Rosh Hashana.
I fell in love with the wooden spoon. I think it is from Africa.
DeleteEverything looks so delicious - love the chopped salad, just wondering what dressing (if any) you put on top. The noodle bowl is so cute as is that little wooden spoon. I can't believe Rosh Hashanah is here already, I'm off to make my honey cake! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteSammie, we use an Italian or Greek dressing on it. You could also add feta cheese to the salad. Happy New Year!
DeleteJudee,

I enjoyed visiting your blog. Your home is so beautifully decorated. Thank you for the good wishes.
DeleteHave a sweet New Year! May 5785 be good for you and your family!
ReplyDeletebest, mae
Thanks Mae.. and the same to you and yours.
DeleteI use baking cups for cupcakes, but never for muffins.
ReplyDeleteI automatically use them for both to prevent sticking.
Deletethis all looks wonderful, i adore that bowl as well. i have a very unhealthy addiction to "bowls". i don't know when it started or how many i have...all i can say is, i have way too many!! i always use cupcake liners when i make muffins or cupcakes, i know not everyone does!! the fresh cut flowers are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to buy two of those bowls but I restrained myself since I really did not even need one. I love bowls too and the shape really matters to me.
DeleteHow can it be October yet? I love that little Chinese bowl and your spoon measure.
ReplyDeleteI had seen a spoon measure similar to this before and passed it by! This time I said,
Delete" Why not?"
I hope you have an easy fast for Yom Kippur. Happy New Year - may you be written in the book of life.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol and if you celebrate I wish you the same.
DeleteAll your food looks really good! I drank green tea for a while and I found it really stained my tea cups so I was a bit worried what it might do to my teeth. I don't have that problem with regular tea. I like that comment about tourist traps. lol. We have actually stopped into South of the Border when traveling down to Florida. That's 20 minutes we'll never get back in time. lol andrea
ReplyDeleteI have not noticed the difference with the tea, but I really don't drink it often. OMG South of the Border - now that is a tourist trap. But it is fun to read all their signs.
DeleteThat hand painted spoon is really sweet, even if it came from a tourist trap.. oops, shop. Have a great October!
ReplyDeleteI do like my spoon and am enjoying it.
DeleteEverything looks so yummy! Now I'm craving stuffed grape leaves! I love your wooden spoons and salad tongs. Please send me an email so I can reply to your comments directly. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteYou always find such great additions to your kitchen! But I need some of those If You Care liners and the dried black olives really caught my eye! All of the celebration(s) food looks fresh and delicious! Happy celebrations and time with family and friends!
ReplyDeleteI always see those painted spoons and think they are so pretty! One day I'll buy some too, I am sure. I do have the exact twisty spoon set that you have though. It's one of my favorite set of utensils in my kitchen!
