4 Ingredient Quinoa Bagels - Easy and Gluten-Free

Have you seen this easy four-ingredient quinoa bagel recipe that has been all over the Internet, Instagram and Pinterest?

Every time I come across them, I think, I really should try making those quinoa bagels. Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and actually make them--

So Easy- really!!!

These bagels are super fun and  easy to make, and they turned out much better than I expected. They have a soft, satisfying texture, slice beautifully, and look like a real bagel. And the best part? They actually taste pretty decent! They are made primarily from quinoa, so they do have a distinct quinoa taste.

What Took Me So Long To Try Making Them?

The reason I never tried making them before was because there is one ingredient that was not sitting in my pantry: psyllium husk powder, which is used in baking for elasticity.  I ordered some from Amazon, and now I have plenty for another quick and easy batch of bagels or it can be used in other baking.

I was honestly surprised by how simple the whole process was. No complicated steps, no hours waiting for yeast to rise, and no special equipment. Just mix in a blender, rest, shape, and bake.

And then came the important part: eating them!

My Bagel

I topped my quinoa bagel with  avocado and a generous sprinkling of "everything bagel" seasoning. Yum! The combination of the creamy avocado and savory seasoning was delicious.

I have no regrets about buying that jar of psyllium husk powder! It was about $10. I will probably make these again and also look for other easy recipes that also call for this natural fiber.

What Is Psyllium Husk Powder?

Psyllium husk powder comes from the outer coating of the seeds of the psyllium plant. It’s a type of soluble fiber that absorbs water and forms a gel-like consistency. That’s what makes it so useful in baking—it helps hold ingredients together. adds elasticity, and gives these quinoa bagels their chewy texture.

I’m certainly no expert on psyllium and not promoting it or making any claims for it, but after using it in these bagels, I can see why it keeps popping up in recipes!.

Ingredients:

1 cup of uncooked quinoa, washed and soaked overnight or soaked in boiling water for 20 minutes
1 additional cup of water for the dough
2 tablespoons of Psyllium husk powder
1 teaspoon of baking powder
optional: Everything bagel seasoning

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Soak quinoa for about 20 minutes in boiling water. Drain well and then blend in a blender with the other 3 ingredients. After mixing the dough, let it rest on the counter in a bowl for about 20 minutes.

Put some oil on your hands to prevent the dough from sticking. Shape the dough into 5-6 balls, place on a parchment covered cookie sheet, make a whole in the center with your finger. Sprinkle the top with everything bagel seasoning (or salt) and pop them into the oven. Bake for 25–30 minutes.

Do you eat bagels? What do you like to put on top of your bagel?

My Notes :

     1. This quinoa bagel recipe is gluten-free, oil-free, and vegan

       2.  Would I make them again? Probably.

    3.   If you've got quinoa and the psyllium husk powder in the house, you can basically always make some gluten-free bread.

The trees are starting to change colors for fall - despite the high temperature reaching 81 degrees today  !!!!

  1. They really do look good. I confess to being a great fan of Montreal style bagels here, but I have never even considered making them. I can’t imagine the kosher deli I patronize doing them any time soon!
