A Quick Fireworks Show—and an Even Quicker Dash to the Car
How was your Fourth of July weekend? Ours was pretty quiet, but we still managed to get out and enjoy a little holiday fun.
On the Fourth, we headed over to watch the fireworks at Sesame Place in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Instead of dealing with the crowds inside the park, we joined hundreds of other people who had the same idea—parking in the shopping center across the street. Everyone unloaded their lawn chairs and lined the edges of the parking lot, settling in for the show.
Right around 8:58 p.m., the first fireworks lit up the sky. It was a beautiful display, even if it only lasted about 10 minutes. By 9:10, the grand finale had ended, and we were folding up our chairs and making our way back to the car.
Big Storm Blowing In
As it turned out, our timing couldn't have been better.
About five minutes later, while safely tucked inside our car, the weather changed almost instantly. The wind began howling so fiercely that we actually wondered if a tornado was headed our way. (Thankfully, it wasn't!) The trees were bending and thrashing, their branches rustling so loudly they almost drowned out everything else. Lightning flashed across the sky, turning night into day for brief moments, and within minutes the rain came pouring down in buckets.
The drive home was a challenge. Visibility was terrible, and everyone on the road slowed to a crawl. Fortunately, home was only about 10 minutes away, so we made it safely
The fireworks may have been the main attraction, but Mother Nature had a dazzling finale of her own waiting for us.

Our area had a similar storm come through about 4 pm. Because if it, a couple of events were cancelled or postponed. We had already decided to stay home and watch patriotic television.

DeleteThose sudden summer storms can be both beautiful and a little frightening, especially when the wind and lightning arrive so quickly. I’m glad you made it home safely and that the storm waited until after the fireworks were finished. Sometimes those unexpected moments end up being the ones we remember most.

We had a storm like that around 4 and then again around 7. I luckily got the grilling done in between. We needed the rain so I can't complain. But the wind this year has been unusually strong.

DeleteTen minutes? Hahaha that's like, an introduction! But then the storm came so it would have been cut short anyway! We had a thrashing-lashing storm this past Tuesday (or maybe it was Monday, haha) ... for the better part of three hours, it poured. But on the Fourth, it was so hot that I barely went outside. Everyone did come over but I'd said I wasn't doing a meal, so they either ate before they came or brought their food with them. I heard TG out in front doing fireworks with the kids right after it got dark, but I stayed put in the front room. Too hot, too humid, and too many mosquitoes! But they had fun. xoxo

Deletei think a lot of people got rain over the holiday weekend. we had a lot of rain and storms but did not have any plans to go anywhere. it gets crazy here at the shore over the summer. pretty fireworks, i hope you enjoyed a pina colada, so necessary if you get caught in the rain!!

DeleteThankfully my kids are grown so we don't really do the downtown fireworks anymore. It was always a nightmare to find parking, then a nightmare to leave. We also got rain the evening of the 4th, so many had to cut their firework displays short.

ReplyDeleteYou can say that again!! It was just minutes and seemed like there was no warning. All of a sudden strong gusts of wind and then boom - a big strong storm.
