A Cape Cod Getaway & A New Favorite Recipe
I just returned from a 4 day wonderful getaway with friends in Cape Cod, Massachusetts—a reunion with my husband's Florida “winter poker crew.” We were six couples in total, and we spent three fun-filled days together, spread out between two of our friend's extra big houses.
As you might guess, the guys spent their days playing poker, while the spouses went on outings and adventures.
We women treated ourselves to a luxurious massage and a delicious lunch at a gorgeous spa in the Plymouth, Mass called Mirbeau.
"Mirbeau Inn & Spa Plymouth is a 50-guestroom spa retreat combining the amenities of a gracious French manor house, a world-class spa, and casually elegant dining, all with the elegant comforts and residential feel of a private estate. The resort is situated on the Village Green in the award-winning community of The Pinehills in Plymouth, MA — minutes away from downtown and the beach. The Inn and Spa buildings are clustered around the sumptuous Monet pond gardens, with exterior architecture, interior décor and landscape design reminiscent of an estate in the countryside near Paris."
"Since 1925 the Sandwich Glass Museum has been interpreting the glassmaking history of the Town of Sandwich, and since 1980 we have been actively fostering contemporary glass art and the artists who make it."
One of my favorites |
The remainder of the time, we girls strolled through the charming town of nearby Falmouth for a little New England shopping/browsing.
We also took morning walks along the shoreline, enjoyed lazy hours curled up with a book and a beautiful view, and had plenty of time to unwind, chat, meal prep together, and watch the Tennis Open finals.
The backyard and sunsets at my friends beach house was beyond beautiful.

What was I reading on the get-a-way?
The Kite Runner by Khaaled Hosseini. Have you read it?
It is an older book that I had never read. It is written beautifully and tells the story of life in Afghanistan before and after the Taliban. The author is a spellbinding story teller. Highly recommend reading it if you have not already read it.
Have you been to Cape Cod? What did you visit?
When I was there a few years ago, we went whale watching nearby. Remarkably we had the perfect day for seeing whales and saw about forty of them during the three hour boat tour.

Thought I would end with a quote:
What a terrific time -- you did so many fun things. (I would have enjoyed your activities far more than the guys playing poker!). I'd love to visit the Cape. The closest I ever got was seeing it across the water from Martha's Vineyard. It looks wonderful. And all your activities were such fun! That chandelier reminds me of Chihuly. It would be fun to see the demo but I might go crazy in the shop!
ReplyDeleteYes everyone wondered but we asked and it was actually made at a nearby glass factory.
DeleteIt looks like such a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteWe've been doing It every year for the past 6 years

DeleteI was able to watch a glass blower when we lived in Ft. Myers, and it was really fascinating. It makes you appreciate the art much more.

I have family in Fort Myers and have visited often- didn't realize there was a place for glass blowing.

DeleteI've never been to Cape Cod and now I feel like I'm missing out! Such a shame, for all those years I lived on the east coast, and didn't think to explore further.
ReplyDeleteDid you live in Pennsylvania?
DeleteSounds like such a fun time for all thanks for sharing photos
ReplyDeleteYes, we do it every year and it is fun to get together and fun to visit the area.
DeleteThe Kite Runner is a wonderful book. I am glad you finally read it. It looks like you had a great few days away. Your favourite glass work looks a little like Chihuly.
ReplyDeleteI saw the book on the shelf at my son's home and realized I had never read it. Really enjoyed it.
DeleteI visited Cape Cod a few years ago and enjoyed it very much - other than for the traffic and the daily struggle to find somewhere to park!
ReplyDeleteI think by the time we visited in September, we did not experience a great deal of traffic . In addition, some resort area shops had already closed for the season
Deletei have never been and after reading this and seeing your beautiful pictures, i really want to go!! the "cape cod" shrubs in the first picture is just amazing. i LOVED seeing the whimsical pieces, they were so unusual and right up my alley!! it looks and sounds like a great group, the image of you girls is great!!
ReplyDeleteUntil we met our Florida friends who live in the summer in Cape Cod, we had never been there either. It's a beautiful area to visit but a long ride. With traffic it took us 7 hours to get home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful post! I love the glass art! Gorgeous sunset! Beautiful views, good food and lovely smiling faces! I have never been to Cape Cod. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!
