Tarnish gone is seconds with this tip

Tarnish is gone from silver  in seconds with this  common household product! I will never buy silver polish again!

Have you ever set the table for a dinner party or a holiday and realized that your silver has some tarnish spots and you were out of silver polish? Try this

It's happened to me in the past, but no more. I learned that there is one simple household product that everyone has in the house that will not only remove the tarnish instantly, but it has worked better than the expensive polish cleaners that I have purchased in the past.

Cheaper and Healthier

What's more is that commercially sold silver polish cleaners  contain harsh chemicals that are not healthy to use . Aside from the toxic smell, commercial silver polish also absorbs into your skin and into your body. Who wants that?

This simple household product that I now use is safe, simple, and very inexpensive.

Do you have a clue what it is? It is your toothpaste!!
Yes, any kind of toothpaste works as well if not better than any silver polish I have tried.

I tried a variety of different kinds of toothpastes - gel, white cream, no fluoride, fluoride, all natural and regular

It leaves the silver clean, shiny, and beautifully polished.

I put some toothpaste on a paper towel and rubbed it for a second or two over the spreaders

The silverplate spoons and spreaders belonged to my mother. They had been in a drawer for years. When I took them out, I realized that I would need to do some heavy duty polishing.

Then I remembered this simple tip. IT WORKED SO WELL that I would never go back to buying expensive commercial silver polish.

This is how they looked after rubbing toothpaste on them with a paper towel

This is how they originally looked

Which brand of toothpaste works best?

They all worked equally well - the gel, the white paste, the natural toothpaste, and the Crest, the Colgate. Each toothpaste took the tarnish off effortlessly and in seconds.

So go get your silver and shine it up with an old tube of toothpaste. I cleaned up a pair of old silver candlesticks in a few minutes with no mess!

  2. Thanks for the tip, Judee. I can't wait to try it.

  3. Angie,
It works so well, it is actually fun

  4. I've read about this method for years, but have always read that while it works it can actually harm the silver, especially silverplated items, because it's too abrasive. That's why I've steered clear of this method. Did you read anything about that concern?

    1. Shirley,
I read about it on Pinterest and tried it.. I used it on silverplate and all the pieces looks lovely. I'll let you know if I see any deterioration of the cutlery-thanks for the heads up.. I hope it's good since I really do not like to expose myself to the chemicals in the commercial products I'll try to research it..thanks

    1. I agree that the regular silver polish is so full of chemicals and scary to use.

  9. I've used Weiman's for years as t was recommended by my jeweler to be safe, however I have done the toothpaste thing in a pinch(like when you are setting the table and guests are arriving) LOL.
