Peek Into My Week- Reviews and Food

Reading:

What I'm Reading :
The Orphan Collector by Ellen Mari Wiseman
If you are not nervous enough about the Covid Pandemic, read this realistic piece of historical fiction set in Philadelphia in 1918 at the start of the Spanish Flu epidemic. Sad, touching, informative, and gripping, this powerful NY Times Bestseller was difficult to put down.

What I'm Watching:

Watching: The Queen Gambit- Netflix Series
I enjoyed this series about a young orphan who turns out to be an intuitively extremely gifted chess player. While still a teenager,  she begins to play in highly competitive chess tournaments with large cash prizes. Although chess is the theme, the stories also revolve around relationships, pain of her past, drugs and alcohol, learning from mistakes, and her evolution into a powerful woman. Worth the watch!

Also on Netflix: Holidate
A perfect movie for when you want something light and fun! Holidays are wicked for singles but co-stars Emma Roberts  and Luke Bracey find a solution when they agree to be each others date for any and all holidays and occasions. Kept me laughing and I totally enjoyed it.

  2. Orphan Collector looks like a book I'd enjoy. I can't wait to hear more about your plant-based cookbook. You must tell us all about it.

Soup is our go-to meal around here, and it's really not very cool. Soup is such an easy choice for us, and there are so many soups to try. Yours look like delightfully fresh ideas.

    Happy birthday!

  5. The Orphan Collector does look promising. My hubby has been watching The Queen's Gambit and I've caught bits and pieces of it. I love soups and have been making a huge pot once a week since August. My dad gives me lots of produce from his garden and I experiment with soups. Pumpkin soup, veggie soup, pea soup, potato and leek soup...yum!

    1. I also eat soup in the summer- and have been making it all summer except for the few weeks when temps went into the 90's and I just wasn't going to eat hot soup.

  9. Well Happy Birthday a bit belated - what a fun idea to celebrate! (On a side note, your house looks almost identical to ones in my sister's neighborhood near Nashville - for half a second, I thought you might be neighbors!) And thanks for the Netflix recommendations, too - we're hunting for new stuff to watch!

    1. Thanks David for the birthday wishes. I was a fun idea. I took my morning walk at 8:00 and when I returned at 9:00 the entire lawn was decorated including chalk writing in the driveway that it was from my grandkids and kids. So fun especially during Covid when we really can't do much to celebrate!

  10. Happy birthday! Thanks for the movie and book tips. Those decorations are so fun. And I'm with JoAnn, we love soup all year long, but now is the perfect time. I have Brussels sprouts in the refrigerator and an empty spot in my meal plan . . .
