Since it's the beginning of the month, it's also time for Sherry from Sherry's Picking monthly In My Kitchen blog share which I'm joining.
Florida has been very hot and humid. I have not been doing any real cooking. Instead I've been focusing on salads and light eating. The other day, we participated in a pot-luck dinner and I made a delicious quinoa salad with scallions, lemon, pine nuts, and slivered almonds.

This recipe came out really good and leftovers tasted even better the next day directly from the fridge. I'll post the recipe in another post.
You may remember that we have a flower truck that stops by our complex in Florida every Friday. The flowers are brought straight from the airport that morning and sell for $20 for 2 dozen gorgeous roses. I kept half of the two dozen, and gave the other half to my neighbor for her 82nd birthday!!
Also while in Home Goods, I picked up this salad bowl and servers. It will be perfect for when I need to bring my pot luck dish to friend's home without worrying about breaking my glass bowls.
I was surprised that the Christmas and Hanukkah displays were already out in Home Goods! I loved these colorful candles that I'll use for Hannukah!
Olives are a staple in our kitchen, so I'm starting with a large jar to begin the season.
I took a run to Aldi for some chocolate. The sea salt with caramel chips are my favorite; my husband likes the plain or creme filled varieties.
I found these dried baby bananas from Trader Joe's in our closet left from last season. The expiration date is still good, so we will be opening them soon.

That bowl with servers looks quite neat..is it a salad bowl? Those flowers are really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a salad bowl... I just added that in..
DeleteI can imagine it's fun to be back in your seasonal neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is .. and all our friends are back too.
DeleteThose roses are stunning and only $20! What a bargain! Love the salad bowl so handy when you're taking a dish and also so convenient for storage. Your Halloween peppers look so cute, I bet they were delicious. I love the colourful Hanukkah candles. I asked my auntie to bring some from London and I was so surprised when she said they're not on sale here yet! Lucky she gave me some of her left over candles from last year so I won't go without! Enjoy the Florida sunshine!
ReplyDeleteYes, the roses are amazing.I love these candles - they are somewhat different than the normal ones.
DeleteWelcome back to "other" home. Lots of such fun things here. I'm a wild cocktail napkin collector -- far more than the entertaining I do but sometimes I just enjoy them and use myself. I've got to get to Home Goods but I'm sort of afraid to. No control!
ReplyDeleteI get it about Home Goods- I just love that place. I too love collecting the napkins. Truthfully, I already had more than I needed before I bought these.
DeleteDo you not have your own kitchen in your Pennsylvania residence?
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting. After working in a different kitchen for 6 months, it takes me about 2-3 days to get used to this kitchen again. The trash is in a different place, the spices, the refrigerator etc. are in different places.Yup they are mine in both places, but I need to get re- acquainted when I've been away for so many months.
DeleteLet's start at the top, the roses are such a treat, especially at that price! Love all the goodies, but especially that salad bowl. And that is the coconut milk I use, especially for overnight oats. Have a great winter, I look forward to more posts and all the fun you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melynda..
DeleteQuinoa salad is neat — I made one a few days ago and we have been working on it. Today’s lunch was a mixture of it with a palm heart salad from another day.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Oh what a great idea Mae, I have some hearts of palm
